I want to share this fun, easy Harley Quinn makeup because it was SO fun to do! Comic Con was last weekend, and we are SUPER nerds that go to that stuff, so of course we grabbed tickets! I was really excited until about three hours before when I suddenly remembered I do NOT have my life together because I had forgotten to plan out a costume. Who forgets to plan their comic con costume? Me! That’s who. Maybe that means I’m not as nerdy as I thought? So I scrambled through my closet and to my horror, discovered I most have thrown away all of my costumes in the attempt to de-clutter when we moved. Insert MAJOR face palm. So I resorted to finding something fun with makeup. I wanted something really quick and easy to do that still had really good visual impact and looked kind of pretty, and I got several compliments so I think it came out pretty good! I also just want to say that I am not an expert by any means, I’m just a girl who loves makeup and wants to try fun stuff, so if you sound like me then this might be the right post for you! The steps I took to create this look are below 🙂
Steps to create this Harley Quinn Makeup look
All of the products and exact colors I used are listed at the bottom of this post.
I started with my foundation, I used the lightest shade that I have and since I’m already fair-skinned, it made me look really pale, just like Harley Quinn is. If you have a little more prep time than I did, you could mix your foundation with a little bit of white powder or paint to really lighten it up and get that kind of ghostly white face she has.
Next I took a simple brown pencil and filled in my eyebrows so they were noticeable- since I’m so blonde I have a case of vanishing eyebrows so I needed to draw attention to them 😉
Next I used a mixture of a dark blue, silver, and light blue eyeshadow on my left eye to make the blue eye. Using an eyeshadow brush I dabbed on the darker blue to cover the whole lid and crease of my eye, then used the light blue up to my eyebrow. I also lined the bottom of my eye with the light blue shadow, and then I took my fingers and smeared the shadow around the exterior part of my eye and upper cheek to make it look smudged and messy.
Now I would have done the exact same thing with red eye shadow, however I couldn’t find it (probably because of that de-cluttering version of me that threw it away last year. Damn that woman…) so I ended up using some red lipstick! I used a concealer brush to dab the lipstick onto my eye, then a little sponge to spread it evenly. I used just a tiny bit of plum colored shadow in the crease to give my eye a little bit of visual effect (I’m sure there is a proper term for that??), then took my finger and smeared the makeup around the outer part of my eye and upper cheek, just like with the left eye.
I used a thick black liner pen to line my eyes, although I would have preferred a thick liquid liner if I had the chance to do it again so that it looks a little more dramatic. I used just a basic black mascara, although I would highly recommend false lashes because false lashes are #everything and I love them.
On the right side of my face, I took my eyeliner pen and drew in a small heart right on my cheekbone, then used that same pen to sketch out the word, “ROTTEN.” If you are doing this yourself, just remember in the mirror that words look backwards, I almost had a Karen from Mean Girls moment when I started out, haha. I’m sure I’m not the only one to make that mistake, so just keep an eye out for that if you have blonde moments like me!
To top off the look, I used a black pencil liner and used it for a really thin lip liner, then used my bright red lipstick and smudged the liner into the lipstick so it looked a little more blended. Once I finished that, I used one finger and kind of smudged the left side of my lipstick out just a little. I think I maybe overdid it, Harley Quinn’s is kind of just a little smudge so if you’re looking to be a little closer to the exact look, just do a little smudge.
Top it off with a little setting spray so it stays for the whole time you are out having fun! Here are the actual products/colors that I used:
