Books

I’m a die hard Harry Potter fan, I mean the love I have for Harry Potter is like blood-oath, unbreakable vow type love. I’ll admit though, I am a total book nerd and my favorite thing about Harry Potter is actually READING it, feeling the pages turn, making pictures in my mind from the words flowing on the page… (shuddering in the nerd-iest type of excitement just typing this.) I’ve always loved reading, and not just Harry, I love reading all kinds of books and of course as a mom, that was the first thing I wanted to do with my baby. I read through my whole pregnancy, I dragged poor hubby through the bookstores week after week scouring for cute baby books. I forced my little squid to sit and listen as I read, explaining the pictures to her before she was even old enough to be able to focus her little eyes on them. Can you guess what her first word was?? yep, that’s right, it was BOOK (I was fistpumping and mom-cheering like Voldemort got vanquished that day! #WIN) So, after reading through so many kids books, and as I mentioned in my list of favorite baby gifts post here, I compiled a list of some of my favorites for babies and toddlers, and of course they all come available in a board book version because I know how those tiny hands rip paper pages with more delight than should be allowed.

Pookie is the cutest little piglet ever, and they have a whole collection of Little Pookie books so you can get them all (like me, I just can’t help myself!) or you can choose your favorites to fit your style!

The Pout-Pout Fish

I’m a fan of anything ocean or sea related, so of course I had to include my favorite fish-y tale for toddlers.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you Hear?

From the same people who brought you the infamous “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” book, I actually personally like this one a little bit better because the animals are more exciting (warning: my personal opinion here!) This one is a great one for teaching animal sounds, too.

Goodnight Goon

Have any of you heard of Goodnight Moon? No? Nobody? Just kidding (I’m hilarious), but I don’t know anyone who hasn’t heard of Goodnight Moon, and yes, I can recite it in my sleep backwards like a lot of other moms. This version though, is a perfect break from the norm. We love Halloween and things that are a little bit spooky, so this one fits our quirky personalities perfect and I can guarantee you guys will love this adaptation of the original.

This one was my favorite as a child because my daddy used to read it to me, and it is still my favorite as a grown up….if I qualify as a grown up?? Extra points if you can read yours in a Grover voice…I’ve been perfecting mine for 20 plus years now 😉

………because this one makes every “favorite kid book” list, right?? No other explanation necessary.

This one tugs at my heart strings a little bit every time I read it. Naturally it had to make my list of favorites.

I love this book because it teaches about colors, and I LOOOOOOVE color. Maybe it is the creative nerd in me?

You can’t have a great list of kid’s books without including Dr. Suess at least once! This story-telling genius takes responsibility for some of my all time favorite stories, but a lot of them are for slightly older, more advanced (as in out of the ripping paper pages stage) children. This one however, is perfect because you can get it in a board book and it is short enough that you won’t lose your little one’s attention to quick! It’s also great for helping them learn sounds and vocabulary.

Little Owl’s Night

Perfect for your little night owl to see all of the little things in the woodlands that happen at night!

This list was really hard to put together because our little family has SO many favorites, so I just listed some of the ones we read the most of all of them, but I’d love to know what ones you would have included! Maybe there are some fun ones I haven’t come across yet that I should know about? Let me know your suggestions in the comments!
